A’kin Volume Boost Shampoo and Conditioner Review 2024

You know a shampoo and conditioner is good if “The Aussie Rapunzel” swears by it.

The social media sensation, otherwise known as Sophie Jordan, has a combined 1.5 million followers across TikTok and Instagram where she shares her secrets to maintaining her thigh-length luscious blonde locks.

Sophie is an ambassador for A’kin Naturals, sharing her routine using two of their haircare lines in sponsored videos on Instagram — and the results speak for themselves.

Sophie shared how she likes to give an in-depth cleanse of her scalp once a month using the A’kin Naturals Deep Clean Shampoo and Conditioner.

“My hair looks so soft and shiny and smelt amazing,” she said after using the two products.

To help repair her dry hair during summer Sophie uses the A’kin Naturals Daily Shine Shampoo and Conditioner plus the Daily Shine Hair Mask for “shiny, soft and hydrated” locks.

Shoppers are obsessed with the results, saying Sophie’s hair looks “amazing” and that “these products look incredible”.

“You can really tell just by watching this video how soft your hair is, wonderful results!”
one fan wrote on Instagram.

As for me, it’s been my curse in life to have woefully flat, super fine hair.

I’ve done it all — special mousses and lotions that promised to give me the voluminous hair of my dreams, styling hot tools that promised all day, 90s bombshell waves — you name it, I’ve tried it.

While cutting my hair into a blunt, longish bob has helped in adding some volume, I still find my hair is seriously lacking omph factor, especially when I’m rolling into day three (or four, or ahem, five) since I last washed my hair.

So I was excited when I heard an Aussie made and owned brand had released a range of volumising shampoo and conditioner that promises to give you 101 per cent more volume after just one wash.

Plus, did I mention you can get it at Chemist Warehouse for the fraction of the price of other haircare brands?

A’kin’s Volume Boost Shampoo and Conditioner is designed specifically for fine hair types that are looking for extra lift.

Made from Australian caviar lime, coconut and amino acids the range is sulphate and silicone-free, which is ideal for fine hair types like me that can easily be weighed down by product.

As well as promising to add volume, a lab study by the brand found it could last for eight hours.

Intrigued, I decided to put the A’kinVolume Boost Shampoo and Conditioner to the test.

FIRST THOUGHTS AND THE WASH

My first thought when using the Volume Boost Shampoo and Conditioner was, “wow, this smells incredible!”

I love a bit of fragrance in my beauty products but hate when a scent is too overpowering, especially now I’m pregnant and super sensitive to smells.

But the A’kin Volume Boost range passed the Goldilocks test for me and was just right, with a lovely light floral and coconut scent.

Using it in the shower the shampoo worked up into a really nice lather, which I found sometimes doesn’t happen with sulphate and silicone-free shampoos. I opted to shampoo my hair twice because it had been damp the last few days and I was (don’t judge me) a few days past my usual date for washing my hair.

After rinsing out the shampoo I applied the Volume Boost Conditioner, leaving it in for a few minutes before washing it out.

DRYING HAIR AND INITIAL VERDICT

Once out of the shower I gave my hair a rough towel to dry. Already I noticed my hair was feeling lighter than usual — it didn’t have that oily residue that I sometimes notice other shampoos and conditioners give my hair.

To make it a true test for how well the A’kinVolume Boost Shampoo and Conditioner could work, I didn’t use any other products besides a quick spritz of heat protectant spray.

I gave my hair a rough blow dry not using any round brushes or the hair dryer diffuser attachment. I was pleased that my hair still felt lovely and light after I dried it — it had that nice, bouncy feel hair gets when it isn’t being weighed down.

EIGHT HOUR TEST: MY FINAL VERDICT

When I finished blow drying my hair I could definitely not only feel a difference, but it was noticeable too. There was instant volume as my hair had more of a lift and bounce when I moved. While I wouldn’t say it was 101 per cent more volume, it definitely was a marked difference.

Not only that but my hair felt extra glossy and just all-round healthier than usual. I feel like by combining the A’kinVolume Boost Shampoo and Conditioner with the right styling products and hot tools you can definitely achieve a more voluminous look.

What’s more, eight hours after washing my hair with the Volume Boost range and I can say my hair still has the same bouncy look and feel.

Overall, I was blown away by how well the A’kinVolume Boost Shampoo and Conditioner performed.

Costing well under $20 (and conveniently available at Chemist Warehouse) I can say it’s been a game changer not only in making my hair feel healthier but also adding more body.

WHAT REVIEWS SAY

I’m not the only one who is impressed by the results from A’kin’s Volume Boost range, with reviews on their website raving about the results.

“I have used this product for about four weeks now and my thin lifeless hair has more volume and shine than it has in a long time,” one five star review reads.

“After just one use, my hair looked thicker and fuller with a lot more life and shine.

“It also cleansed my hair really well without weighing it down. After my hair dried it was bouncy, flowy and had a nice shine to it.”

“A’kin Volume Boost conditioner is a volume miracle in a bottle!” another happy shopper wrote.

“After just one use, my hair looked like it had a VIP pass to the volume party. Seriously, it’s like it got a 100 per cent boost overnight.”

“Absolutely loved the A’kin shampoo. Can’t believe the changes in volume and shine that it gave me thin, dull hair after the first use.,” one five star review also said.

OTHER PRODUCTS IN THE A’KIN HAIR RANGE

A’kin’s Volume Boost Shampoo and Conditioner aren’t the only products that come highly recommended.

The Aussie brand also has a Daily Shine Shampoo and Conditioner made from Australian jojoba oil, yerba mate and niacinamide that promises to increase shine by 28 per cent.

There’s also their Damage Repair Shampoo and Conditioner that shoppers say leaves their hair feeling “soft, hydrated and fresh”.

Those with oily hair can try the Deep Clean Shampoo and Conditioner range which aims to reduce pollution build-up with ingredients such as Australian aniseed myrtle, bamboo extract and AHAs.

A’kin’s hair range also includes a Daily Shine Hair Mask, Deep Clean Scalp Scrub and Damage Repair Leave in Conditioner if your hair needs some extra TLC.
